New Training Requirements Frequently Asked Questions
I have been trained, does it expire?
Some trainings such as CPR, Climb on Safely and Wilderness First Aid do have expiration dates on them and you should take training again as needed to stay current. Youth Protection training must be taken every two years.
Other trainings do not have expiration dates. It is suggested that you retake those trainings every 5 years in order to keep informed and up to date.
What are the basic trainings that I should take?
Youth Protection, Fast Start and This is Scouting are the basic trainings and all available online. Other additional trainings such as Leader Specific or Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills are needed to complete your status as a trained leader.
What do I need to take online trainings?
You will need your membership registration number which is found on your registration card. If you are not registered you will need to fill out an adult application and receive a registration number. If you do not have your card contact Margaret Riedinger at
mrieding@bsamail.org
to secure your registration number. Note that the online training modules work best with Windows Explorer 7.
Where do I go to find online trainings?
Go to the BSA Online Learning Center at
http://olc.scouting.org
How do I update the training records for trainings I’ve attended?
Utilize the Adult Leader Training Record form and provide the dates for the trainings you’ve completed. If you are unsure of exact dates, use “Scout’s Honor” to put in approximate dates. Be sure to complete the form with your contact information and send it to Candi Chase at
Candice.Chase@scouting.org
