Scouting For Food

Quivira Council Scouting for Food in 2011

This year we are pleased to announce that Dillons Stores will once again partner with Quivira Council Scouts to help us raise awareness and collect food donations to feed hungry Kansans in our communities.

Two Great Ways to participate in Scouting For Food!

  • Call your local Dillons Store and ask the manager if you can set up a donation table near the entrance/exit doors.  As customers arrive to shop, ask if they'd like to help with Scouting For Food.  Have a handy 'wish list' from food pantries for most needed items, found here, to give them.  Then, they can drop off their donation on the way out.  You'll need to make arrangements to take your donations to your local food pantry.  If you're in Wichita, we ask that you consider supporting The Kansas Food Bank.

  • Through October 9th, use the Council Door Hangers.  Take them out and tag doors in your neighborhood.  Make sure you complete the areas made available on the tags to let your donors know when you'll be back to collect the food.  Make this easy and convenient for your Scouts and Parents!  Don't forget to go back when you state you'll be there, to collect the donations.  Make advance preparations with your local Food Pantry or in Wichita, The Kansas Food Bank, to take donations as quickly as possible after you collect them.

In September, Dillons Stores will have food collection boxes placed near the front of the store for customers to donate food for Scouting For Food.  In Wichita, The Kansas Food Bank will pick up the donations left in the food collection boxes at Dillons.  If you'd like to collect the food and take it to your unit's local food pantry - please communicate that to your Wichita Dillons Store Manager.  Outside of the city of  Wichita, Dillons Stores will have food collection boxes, but we'll ask units to pick up the food and deliver it to their local food pantry.  Please stop in to your local Dillons and let the store manager know you'll collect the food for the pantry.

You may, with a store manager's permission, set up a table at Dillons to hold a 2-4 hour 'Scouting For Food' collection during September.  It is recommended that you call your unit's local Dillons Store Manager, ask if he'll allow this, and confirm a date and time.  Please, no more than 2-4 Scouts and 2 Leaders at each collection.  Class A Uniform is ALWAYS worn during Scouting For Food.  Outside of the city of Wichita, please take your collected donations to your local food pantry. In Wichita, if you do not have a particular food pantry to support, we ask that you take your donations to The Kansas Food Bank on Douglas St. in Wichita.  May sure you weigh it, or count the items to record on your Unit Donation Form - found here.  Remember to record your Good Turn on the Journey to Excellence website here.
