We Have A Winner, and New District Executive...
Greetings High Plains, My name is Richard Longstaff, and I am your new District Executive for the High Plains District.
I am a Friends University graduate from here in Wichita Kansas. My degree is in Human Resources Management. Based on my past work history I bring 10+ years of on-the-job retail experience in employee relations, training, coaching, succession planning and leadership to the Quivira Council. After many years of successful relationship building within the retail field, I felt very strongly about seeking new opportunities that would transition my career to an environment that would be more rewarding to me personally.
I am originally from the southeast corner of Iowa, along the Mississippi River, where I created many memorable scouting experiences during my Junior High years. I am happily married with two great little kids, and when I am not spending time hanging out with them, you will probably find me at my church helping with the youth or simply strengthening my faith through meaningful fellowship. I feel very blessed to have been given this great opportunity to join the Boy Scouts of America family, and can't wait to personally meet each and every one of you.
Our Newest Silver Beaver Recipient. The Silver Beaver is the highest award that a Council can bestow upon a volunteer, and comes after years of dedicated service at Unit, District and Council levels. In 2010 Pete Dueringer was awarded this honor. Pete has been the High Plains Advancement chair for 7 years and has made his time available for countless conversations and visits to life scouts working to attain the rank of Eagle. He also puts on his Life–To–Eagle workshop each year. I believe that Pete is a big part of why High Plains and Scouting in our communities continues to thrive. The next time you see Pete, please congratulate him!
Our Newest District Award of Merit Recipient. The District Award of Merit is the highest recognition that may be awarded to a volunteer at the district level. Recipients are nominated by their peers and only a limited number may be selected each year based on the number of units in the district. Congratulations to Kim Gilbert who has been doing great things in our district. She served as the district Activities chairwoman and the district Roundtable Staff. Thanks Kim for all you do!
Do you know someone who deserves to be recognized? Send your nominations to Richard Longstaff by 31 Dec, 2011.
