Steps-to-Camp

Planning for summer camp should start several months before your pack plans to arrive at camp. Select a camping chairman and the person who will be your camp leader, if not the Cubmaster. Together with the pack, it is the den leader’s responsibility to ensure their boys are prepared for camp.  Here are a few basic tips to help make this successful:

Successful packs hold an informational meeting for parents before camp. Most packs use pack meetings and newsletters to keep parents informed about camp plans, fees, and preparation.
Some packs find it helpful to hold a “Summer Camp Meeting” just prior to camp to go over what Scouts need to bring with them for the camp session. At this meeting you should also hand out information packets to parents, finalize paperwork, secure the needed equipment for the pack’s campsite, and review the program schedule.

1.   Get a copy of the  2012 Big Bear/Webelos Residence Camp Leader's Guide and read all about summer camp.
2.
Select a date for Summer Camp. If your entire unit cannot attend together, select several sessions or consider Pack Camp.
3.
Submit Registration Form with scout names and shirt sizes to Council Program Department. Early Bird registration fees deadline is December 31st.
4.
Submit a Local Tour Permit on-line at www.myscouting.org
5.   Fill out Unit Roster.  Make 2 copies; 1 to turn in and 1 to keep
6.

7.
Do Pre Camp Swim Tests
Dates and Locations of Council organized swim checks will be listed at
www.quivira.org under the Camping tab. Each unit can organize their own swim checks. Completing swim checks prior to summer camp will provide more time to set up camp upon arrival and reduce paperwork.   Make sure to get a copy of the lifeguard’s certification card
8.
Ensure everyone has a completed
BSA Health & Medical Record
Form and medication will be turned in to Medical Officer at check-in. Do not send to Council office or to camp.
9.
Pay final fees. Ask families for lunch counts for family day. Turn in count and pay when final fees are paid.
10.  Returning Campers – Bring your coup thong!
11. Arrive at camp. Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m.
